Soul mate- Myth or Reality

Have you ever wondered whether the soul mate you are looking for really exists or it is just a figment of your imagination?

Well, even I don’t have the answer to this question.

People yearn to meet the one all through their lives. Some do meet the one and some don’t.

Wiki defines a “soul mate is a term used to designate someone with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural affinity, love, intimacy, sexuality, spirituality, and compatibility.”

For ages we have been hearing about soul mate and how we wish to meet the one. But did we ever ponder upon why the word soul mate is so called?

According to a Greek philosopher, Plato, humans originally consisted of four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces. However, Zeus (Greek God of thunder and sky) feared their power and split them into halves, condemning them to spend their lives searching for the other half to complete them. (Source reference: Wikipedia)From then on people have been searching for their soul mate.

What is my take on this subject? Well, I used to believe this too. But by and by my notion about this whole soul mate thing changed. No, don’t get me wrong, am not discounting the concept. It is just that at present people get to interact with so many people that even if their soul mate would be right under their nose they wouldn’t be able to recognize him/her.

This reminds me of this movie Dil Toh Pagal Hai, where Madhuri was a staunch supporter of this whole soul mate thingy. And she did find hers in King Khan in the movie. In the same way this movie Serendipity (one of my favourites) is based on the same concept. Nevertheless, how many of us can claim that the person we share are life with or are intending to share are life with is our true soul mate. I bet we can’t!

We expect that there is one person who will love us just the way we are. This person would complete our life with qualities that are missing in us. Instead of looking for Mr or Miss Right why can’t we just find the happiness within ourselves? Why build false hopes that the next person will add meaning to our life. Why can’t we make it meaningful and worthwhile ourselves?

Deep down I feel that because of this over-hyped concept of soul mate we build are expectations way too high. We expect so much from our other or better half that this over-expectation leads us to misery, hopelessness, unhappiness, and discontent. People fall in love and when their expectations are not met they fall for someone else, assuming that may be he or she wasn’t my soul mate after all! And then this never ending hunt for Mr or Miss Right continues. Why can’t we become soul mate of our partners, working through the challenges of our lives, rather than looking for a soul mate? We can build mutual trust, love, and respect for our better halves and make a relationship perfect rather than looking for a perfect person to set our lives right.

P.S: A couple of days ago, I read somewhere that human being is polygamous by nature. Wonder if this is true, how many soul mates do we have to look for?

Yet to be named...

Where do I look for you, my beloved?

Don’t you know that my heart aches in your absence?

There are moments that I would like to overlook and

There are moments I would like to reclaim

I try hard to wipe you away

But you keep coming back;

in the waves of the ocean,

in the chirping of birds,

in the rustle of leaves,

in the sweetness of honey,

in the radiance of the sun,

in the soft glow of the moon,

in the dew drops on a leaf,

in the melody of a song,

in the silent prayer that each day I offer to Lord;

to spot the promise of return in your eyes, to fill the empty space and heal my aching heart

Silent Love

The love I have been dreaming of is so close to me,

but all I can do is just watch you without words.

In this city of strangers, I lived day by day painting love!

Waiting and hoping against hope that you will be here;

to fill my incomplete life with your presence.

I know not, is it you, God, or Fate that chose to keep us apart, name it what you may;

but may be we are not meant to be together.

I never wanted to let this love fly by; but my days are numbered;

and it’s too late now... forget me not;

coz wherever you tread, I will be watching over you, silently, with a heart full of LOVE!

Longing for the Past

Like finger marks on a frosted window,

you left your first love behind.

You knew, being with you, I felt at ease,

I told you this once and you left, without a word.

You left 'love' to pursue 'reality',

you said, "I want a stable life, coz Life cannot go on only with Love!"

For months afterward, his memories were delivered in the form of a wind chime, with a note attached to it;

"I LOVE U"... I always have, but FaTe chose to keep me away from you...

Coz life is not about what you Deserve or what you Desire, but what is destined to be!

The memories that you hold close to your heart were not just yours...

I can't erase them myself, so I sent them back.

Memories that are nothing; yet mean everything!

Smitten by Hallyu-wood

I will never fall out of love with at least something and that is Korean movies. At the mention of Korean movies, there are a few who think that my taste for movies has gone for a toss. But believe me, if you just watch one of the romantic Korean movies, you will vouch for it for sure.

Besides horror movies I like movies with emotional subjects. When it comes to handling emotional subjects I believe Hollywood movies take a back seat to Korean movies. There are movies which leave you with a heavy heart, yet you like watching it over and over again, such as My Sassy Girl and A Moment to Remember. For those of you, who may not have watched My Sassy Girl, am sure you might have watched the Bollywood version of it called Ugly Aur Pagli starring Mallika Sherawat and Ranbir Shorey. As far as My Sassy Girl is concerned the Korean version has the right amount of humor and heartfelt emotions unlike Ugly Aur Pagli. It’s a delightful romantic comedy. But there are many more movies which can bring tears in your eyes. Windstruck is one such movie.

What I like about Korean movies is that the narrative elements are simple, with great humor. The female characters are portrayed as strong and independent and the male characters are portrayed way to sweet. The visual aspect and the background score make it worth watching. If you enjoy watching light headed, romantic comedy then you must watch the movies listed below. Do add to the list if you feel I have left out any.

§ The Classic (5 star)
§ Windstruck (5 star)
§ A Moment to Remember (5 star)
§ Seducing Mr. Perfect (5 star)
§ My Sassy Girl (4 star)
§ Sweet Lies (5 star)
§ Almost Love
§ A Millionaire’s First Love
§ When Romance Meets Destiny
§ Jenny and Juno (3 star)
§ Unstoppable marriage
§ My boyfriend is type b (4 star)
§ Love so divine
§ April Snow (3 star)

Sweating it Out!!!

People frequent gym for various reasons. Of late I started visiting a gym. Initially I was enthusiastic about it. But after 3-4 days the flame of enthusiasm started to flicker. Oh no why do I have to drag myself to the gym every day. How do I keep myself motivated to work out?

I realized that one should set one goal at a time; otherwise the whole purpose is defeated. One should not think of losing weight and start noticing the result within a few days. Exercising regularly and following a healthy diet will obviously work wonders. But who is going to leave that yummy mouth watering food to lose weight?

What is the workaround for these issues then?

- try not to focus on losing weight, instead try to enjoy your workout
- try not to overexert your body and expect immediate effects
- try to keep your body well hydrated. Drink lots of water before and after exercise and sip little water during exercise
- enjoy the music to relax during workout
- look at numerous other people who are sweating it out to keep you motivated
- eat your favourite food but in small quantities
- time each activity, do not exceed more than 30-45mins of exercise initially

Exercising not only acts as a stress buster, it helps you stay fit and in good shape.

Happy exercising!

Good v/s Evil

Here comes another story depicting the victory of good over the evil. In this movie the tag line says the mystery continues. The story tries to potray that the good has always been winning and will continue to win over the evil. The victory can come either in this world or from the other world.

But I fail to understand, why do we need to use evil as a means to reach God. Why don't we believe that God already exist. Why don't we believe that there is some kind of supreme power that controls all the activities in our day to day life, one who keeps track of all the good and ugly deeds which we indulge in. I know people who are complete aetheist. They neither believe in God nor believe in the evil. And these people make fun of other people's belief and faith which is sad but true.

I have a different take regarding this topic altogether. I feel that when we indulge in any activity whether it is good or bad, God, the supreme power and if nothing else our conscious self keeps track of all these deeds. So when we commit a sin we pay a price for the same in this world itself. I feel every human being (barring the mentally challenged people)is aware and can take a call on what is good and what is bad. I am not preaching any religion nor am asking people to believe that both God and satan exist.

The point that I am trying to make is-- why indulge in something which we know in the back of our mind will have serious consequences in the future. Why not assume that there is somebody who is watching over us and to whom we can look up to for guidance.

To wrap it up I would say that we should try and think twice before we perform any action (good/bad) to do away with any dire consequences in the future.

Can You Foresee Your Future

You can't change your future, you can't go back to your past to set things right, but what you can do is to foresee your future. Sounds like some clairvoyant who is trying to promote astrology isn't it? But believe me this is not astrology but something similar that helps you to foresee what's in store for you in the future. Most of the people may not believe in any aspect of astrology. But I believe astrology is as logical as any other science.

What am talking about in this post is the power of TAROT cards. Yes I am a strong believer of tarot cards. Let me give you a brief intro about what tarot cards are all about.

The tarot card deck consists of 78 cards, 22 major arcana and 56 minor arcana. The 22 major arcana cards are supposed to depict a journey through one's life, which originates with the Fool card and ends with a card called The World. These cards have been used for fortune telling for centuries.
The minor arcana is the part of the deck that most closely resembles our playing cards of today. The minor arcane contains four suites, which correspond to any game deck you may have around the house. The suits are Wands (Clubs) Cups (Hearts) Pentacles (Diamonds) and Swords (Spades). Also present are the Queen, King and Knight (or Jack) of each suit, plus the addition of Pages, which resemble young men, or women of court, which are not represented in the modern playing deck.

There is much controversy as to the official history of the tarot.
Some say a medieval version of the cards dates back to the early 1400s. Some people claim it to have an Italian origin owing to it's use of Italian imagery. Others say the cards came from China or Egypt. And of course the Gypsies, long associated with the art of fortune telling, are said to have had a hand in the creation, if not the popularity of the cards. The mystery is further stirred when the correspondence of the cards with Cabbalistic or Kabalistic philosophy is considered. Although agreement of the history and origin of the cards is not to be found, it can be agreed that the tarot is a very popular mysterious oracle.

This is as far as history of tarot cards is concerned. But if you want to try it out, visit http://www.realmsofthearcane.com and see for yourself. First of all clear your mind from all other thoughts, tensions, and worries. Think of the question you want an answer for and then click on the cards one by one. But before you do so you got to have faith before trying it out. You can’t change the future for sure but at least gear up for the things that’s in store for you.

Feng Shui Tips

Well if you want to start the year with something postive then read teh article that I've quoted from fenghshui@rp.astrology.com

The name given to this month of January is actually derived from the ancient name of Janus, a Roman god who is thought to have presided over the dawning of each new year. He was referred to and often revered as the 'God of Gateways' or 'God of Doorways.' As such, he is also known as the 'Lord of Beginnings' (sensing a theme here?), and is associated with that goddess of birthing new babes, Juno.

Janus is the original Two Face (sorry Harvey Dent), as his image is often symbolized by a face that looks both backwards and forward at the same time: a reminder that this is a good time to reflect on the events of the previous year.

It is also important to do so while recognizing the proverbial clean slate of opportunity that waits immediately ahead. This is a great day to look at your own formal front doorway, and make some lucky little upgrades.

If at all possible, paint that front door red (to usher in fortune and fabulous luck) or green (to grow health and happiness and prosperity galore). If you can't or don't want to paint the front door, at least give it a thorough cleaning, and maybe save the fresh coat for another chilly winter day.

Remember, the front door calls in most of the subtle energies that enter your house, as well as has an influence and impact on your opportunities and your income. So, be sure it is in very good working condition. In the case of your front door, the words 'open wide' promise to put a really big smile on your face!

The Beginning of a New Year-2009

The new year has come in with all new promises, brand new beginnings, new surprises, and has a bag full of resolutions to adhere to. So like everybody else I have set certain resolutions for myself.

It is possible that I don't prioratize things. It is also possible that my resolutions are not real. Or I make resolutions just for the heck of it. Well I am still analysing the reason. Anyhow I have certain resolutions that I can share with other people through this write up.

1) I will try and interact with more with people. Because they say social interaction is a way to learn new things.

2) I will definitely put aside time for my personal learning.

3) I will either join a dance class or a foreign langauge class, because learning new things keeps one active.

4) Would try and learn new things that may not be a part of my core job responsibility but will add to my knowledge.

5) Spend at least 10 mins in a day to contemplate whether I have learnt anything or not. Whether I am able to meet my goals personal and professional or not?

Well so much for this year...let's see how many of them I can meet.

VST Buses

Few days back I read in the newspaper that APSRTC has launced VST buses after some 3 decades for few selected routes. I have been travelling in buses for more than 3 years now. But now am eagerly waiting for the VST buses to ply on the routes which I frequent. Apparently these buses have a carrying capacity of upto some 70 people. And these buses will in time carry around 170 passengers back and forth. And the best thing about it is that the fare remains the same as those of ordinary buses. Isn't it cool?
