Several thoughts were racing through my mind when I first discovered that I was pregnant. Yes, like any lady I was full of all kind of emotions when I first got to know about it. Couldn't believe, couldn't cry or jump in joy but tears rolled down on my cheeks and suddenly I had a feeling which I could not be explained. Something inside me changed. I started making plans of what, how, when and so on...

Funny things as part of this journey..was my sense of smell increased to the extent that i could clearly pick out someone who was not wearing any sort of colonge or deo. Yuck!

Jokes apart i will not bog down anybody with my symptoms because will share those in another write-up. There were sevreral other female employees who were already a mom. Looking at so many working moms i too decided to join back work post 6 months after delivery. But fate had different plans for me. My baby grew so fond of me infact we both grew so fond of eachother that I chose to become a stay at home mommy. Not that i am taking away the credits of any working mom; but a 24×7 momma has got no leaves in her kitty unlike a working person.

But tell you what it would have been a lot easier if I had formula fed my baby and hired a maid. Doing all the chores and nursing my tot left me famished and irritated. I had hardly any time for myself. Stealing time away from my baby to have a cuppa coffee was a distant dream, let alone shopping and movies and dining out were only taking place in my dreams. To top it all I had put on weight which refused to leave me...lolzz. Thanks to one of the lady doctors who had suggested no....actually forced me to take protein supplements. There! i had to deal with physical stress and still fathom the fact that i had t quit my job owing to motherhood. After all babies grow up with the blink of an eye and moreover, i didn't want to miss out on any of her milestones.

Now after all these hullabaloo and tending to my tot's need day in and day out i still enjoy being a mum. I now have a constant companion who snuggles and showers her love on me. Yes my little one who is now a toddler is now fun to be with. I feel elated at how she imitates me, tries to spill out mamma, baba, quickly picks up things that i teach her each day and the way she dances to Bollywood songs makes me skip a beat. The joy that feel in watching her grow is beyond comprehension. I only have one thing to remind myself each day when i miss being a working person- the moments spent with my baby will never come back. However, i can start off work, rejoin the babdwagon of corporate employees after a break when my tot is a little more independent.

I am still a new mommy, learning the nuances of being a mum. I wish good luck to all the seasoned moms and the moms in the making to bestow them with patience to cope with the challenges of momhood.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The story starts with Soumya (Ankur Khanna) who has come
down to Kolkata to settle some legal formalities of an apartment which his
mother has left behind. As the story moves forward and Soumya gets to know her
mother through her letters and later on through various people in her life, he
gets caught up in her memories. He comes to know his mother through others,
through her memories, her paintings, and her songs.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Initially, I thought Partho (Suchismita’s husband) deserted
Suchismita for another woman. Partho also kept Suchismita bereft of her son’s
love and affection by taking him along with him abroad. But as the story
unfolds, I got to know that it was Suchi’s decision to stay back in India, in
Kolkata. It was her choice, nobody forced her. Her husband gave her a year to
think over and then join him, but she chose not to. So where is the sympathy
coming from, I fail to understand. It was all her choice to stay back, to stay
rooted in her city, in her country, close to her friends, her familial house,
her guide (her painting teacher) and her comfort zone. So why is everyone in
the movie brooding over her death and her fate of not getting a chance to meet
her son before she left for the heavenly aboard? She has led her life as per
her terms and conditions and mark my words, in the movie it was clearly said,
though she was lonely, she was not unhappy. So, I can see a selfish lady
craving for her own independence and joy she chose to forsake her son, her only
son. She chose to part with her son. May be she did write letters to her son,
but her son didn’t receive them. Whatever the case may be, I don’t feel pity
for the character Suchi, because she is to be blamed for her state today. Suchi was portrayed as a self-contained and fiercely independent woman.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Also, in the last ten minutes of the movie it was revealed
that Partho had a love child named Meghla somewhere in Sikkim whom Suchi met
for the for the first and last time before her death. This answers our question why she went to Seven Hills. But what difference does
this make? Partho went to States anyway. Is this shown to emphasize on the
point that Partho too was selfish, that he kept his needs at the top ignoring
what others wanted? Not sure if this is what the movie has intended to portray.
But this is my take on the movie Abhosheshey.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The USP of the movie is its presentation with superb dialogues
and the Rabindra sangeet that Suchi (Rupa Ganguly) has sung. Though I am no
Rabindra sangeet fan, I somehow enjoyed the songs in this movie. It just added
to the sad melancholy mood of the movie. Also, I feel that movie could have
been a little condensed before the interval. All in all, this is a one time
watchable movie.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">You need to think about the solution of a problem keeping yourself independent of it.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Remember, when you have a row with a person, think about the good things and good qualities of that person. Some do meet the one and some don’t.

Wiki defines a “soul mate is a term used to designate someone with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural affinity, love, intimacy, sexuality, spirituality, and compatibility.”

For ages we have been hearing about soul mate and how we wish to meet the one. But did we ever ponder upon why the word soul mate is so called?

According to a Greek philosopher, Plato, humans originally consisted of four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces. However, Zeus (Greek God of thunder and sky) feared their power and split them into halves, condemning them to spend their lives searching for the other half to complete them. (Source reference: Wikipedia)From then on people have been searching for their soul mate.

What is my take on this subject? Well, I used to believe this too. But by and by my notion about this whole soul mate thing changed. No, don’t get me wrong, am not discounting the concept. It is just that at present people get to interact with so many people that even if their soul mate would be right under their nose they wouldn’t be able to recognize him/her.

This reminds me of this movie Dil Toh Pagal Hai, where Madhuri was a staunch supporter of this whole soul mate thingy. And she did find hers in King Khan in the movie. In the same way this movie Serendipity (one of my favourites) is based on the same concept. Nevertheless, how many of us can claim that the person we share are life with or are intending to share are life with is our true soul mate. I bet we can’t!

We expect that there is one person who will love us just the way we are. This person would complete our life with qualities that are missing in us. Instead of looking for Mr or Miss Right why can’t we just find the happiness within ourselves? Why build false hopes that the next person will add meaning to our life. Why can’t we make it meaningful and worthwhile ourselves?

Deep down I feel that because of this over-hyped concept of soul mate we build are expectations way too high. We expect so much from our other or better half that this over-expectation leads us to misery, hopelessness, unhappiness, and discontent. People fall in love and when their expectations are not met they fall for someone else, assuming that may be he or she wasn’t my soul mate after all! And then this never ending hunt for Mr or Miss Right continues. Why can’t we become soul mate of our partners, working through the challenges of our lives, rather than looking for a soul mate? We can build mutual trust, love, and respect for our better halves and make a relationship perfect rather than looking for a perfect person to set our lives right.

P.S: A couple of days ago, I read somewhere that human being is polygamous by nature. Wonder if this is true, how many soul mates do we have to look for?Mousumi At the mention of Korean movies, there are a few who think that my taste for movies has gone for a toss. But believe me, if you just watch one of the romantic Korean movies, you will vouch for it for sure.

Besides horror movies I like movies with emotional subjects. When it comes to handling emotional subjects I believe Hollywood movies take a back seat to Korean movies. There are movies which leave you with a heavy heart, yet you like watching it over and over again, such as My Sassy Girl and A Moment to Remember. For those of you, who may not have watched My Sassy Girl, am sure you might have watched the Bollywood version of it called Ugly Aur Pagli starring Mallika Sherawat and Ranbir Shorey. As far as My Sassy Girl is concerned the Korean version has the right amount of humor and heartfelt emotions unlike Ugly Aur Pagli. It’s a delightful romantic comedy. But there are many more movies which can bring tears in your eyes. Windstruck is one such movie.

What I like about Korean movies is that the narrative elements are simple, with great humor. The female characters are portrayed as strong and independent and the male characters are portrayed way to sweet. The visual aspect and the background score make it worth watching. If you enjoy watching light headed, romantic comedy then you must watch the movies listed below. Do add to the list if you feel I have left out any.

§ The Classic (5 star)
§ Windstruck (5 star)
§ A Moment to Remember (5 star)
§ Seducing Mr. Perfect (5 star)
§ My Sassy Girl (4 star)
§ Sweet Lies (5 star)
§ Almost Love
§ A Millionaire’s First Love
§ When Romance Meets Destiny
§ Jenny and Juno (3 star)
§ Unstoppable marriage
§ My boyfriend is type b (4 star)
§ Love so divine
§ April Snow (3 star)Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-35687549702265015232009-05-28T09:35:00.000-07:002009-05-28T09:49:46.075-07:00Sweating it Out!!!People frequent gym for various reasons. Of late I started visiting a gym. Initially I was enthusiastic about it. But after 3-4 days the flame of enthusiasm started to flicker. Oh no why do I have to drag myself to the gym every day. How do I keep myself motivated to work out?

I realized that one should set one goal at a time; otherwise the whole purpose is defeated. One should not think of losing weight and start noticing the result within a few days. Exercising regularly and following a healthy diet will obviously work wonders. But who is going to leave that yummy mouth watering food to lose weight?

What is the workaround for these issues then?

- try not to focus on losing weight, instead try to enjoy your workout
- try not to overexert your body and expect immediate effects
- try to keep your body well hydrated. Drink lots of water before and after exercise and sip little water during exercise
- enjoy the music to relax during workout
- look at numerous other people who are sweating it out to keep you motivated
- eat your favourite food but in small quantities
- time each activity, do not exceed more than 30-45mins of exercise initially

Exercising not only acts as a stress buster, it helps you stay fit and in good shape.

Happy exercising!Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-72150374546377352222009-02-01T21:32:00.000-08:002009-02-01T21:59:58.856-08:00Good v/s EvilHere comes another story depicting the victory of good over the evil. In this movie the tag line says the mystery continues. The story tries to potray that the good has always been winning and will continue to win over the evil. The victory can come either in this world or from the other world.

But I fail to understand, why do we need to use evil as a means to reach God. Why don't we believe that God already exist. Why don't we believe that there is some kind of supreme power that controls all the activities in our day to day life, one who keeps track of all the good and ugly deeds which we indulge in. I know people who are complete aetheist. They neither believe in God nor believe in the evil. And these people make fun of other people's belief and faith which is sad but true.

I have a different take regarding this topic altogether. I feel that when we indulge in any activity whether it is good or bad, God, the supreme power and if nothing else our conscious self keeps track of all these deeds. So when we commit a sin we pay a price for the same in this world itself. I feel every human being (barring the mentally challenged people)is aware and can take a call on what is good and what is bad. I am not preaching any religion nor am asking people to believe that both God and satan exist.

The point that I am trying to make is-- why indulge in something which we know in the back of our mind will have serious consequences in the future. Why not assume that there is somebody who is watching over us and to whom we can look up to for guidance.

To wrap it up I would say that we should try and think twice before we perform any action (good/bad) to do away with any dire consequences in the future.Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-70838459759820908382009-01-14T00:58:00.000-08:002009-01-14T00:59:20.674-08:00Can You Foresee Your FutureYou can't change your future, you can't go back to your past to set things right, but what you can do is to foresee your future. Sounds like some clairvoyant who is trying to promote astrology isn't it? But believe me this is not astrology but something similar that helps you to foresee what's in store for you in the future. Most of the people may not believe in any aspect of astrology. But I believe astrology is as logical as any other science.

What am talking about in this post is the power of TAROT cards. Yes I am a strong believer of tarot cards. Let me give you a brief intro about what tarot cards are all about.

The tarot card deck consists of 78 cards, 22 major arcana and 56 minor arcana. The 22 major arcana cards are supposed to depict a journey through one's life, which originates with the Fool card and ends with a card called The World. These cards have been used for fortune telling for centuries.
The minor arcana is the part of the deck that most closely resembles our playing cards of today. The minor arcane contains four suites, which correspond to any game deck you may have around the house. The suits are Wands (Clubs) Cups (Hearts) Pentacles (Diamonds) and Swords (Spades). Also present are the Queen, King and Knight (or Jack) of each suit, plus the addition of Pages, which resemble young men, or women of court, which are not represented in the modern playing deck.

There is much controversy as to the official history of the tarot.
Some say a medieval version of the cards dates back to the early 1400s. Some people claim it to have an Italian origin owing to it's use of Italian imagery. Others say the cards came from China or Egypt. And of course the Gypsies, long associated with the art of fortune telling, are said to have had a hand in the creation, if not the popularity of the cards. The mystery is further stirred when the correspondence of the cards with Cabbalistic or Kabalistic philosophy is considered. Although agreement of the history and origin of the cards is not to be found, it can be agreed that the tarot is a very popular mysterious oracle.

This is as far as history of tarot cards is concerned. But if you want to try it out, visit http://www.realmsofthearcane.com and see for yourself. First of all clear your mind from all other thoughts, tensions, and worries. Think of the question you want an answer for and then click on the cards one by one. But before you do so you got to have faith before trying it out. You can’t change the future for sure but at least gear up for the things that’s in store for you.Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-33978693695355094872009-01-04T23:27:00.000-08:002009-01-04T23:29:55.000-08:00Feng Shui TipsWell if you want to start the year with something postive then read teh article that I've quoted from fenghshui@rp.astrology.com

The name given to this month of January is actually derived from the ancient name of Janus, a Roman god who is thought to have presided over the dawning of each new year. He was referred to and often revered as the 'God of Gateways' or 'God of Doorways.' As such, he is also known as the 'Lord of Beginnings' (sensing a theme here?), and is associated with that goddess of birthing new babes, Juno.

Janus is the original Two Face (sorry Harvey Dent), as his image is often symbolized by a face that looks both backwards and forward at the same time: a reminder that this is a good time to reflect on the events of the previous year.

It is also important to do so while recognizing the proverbial clean slate of opportunity that waits immediately ahead. This is a great day to look at your own formal front doorway, and make some lucky little upgrades.

If at all possible, paint that front door red (to usher in fortune and fabulous luck) or green (to grow health and happiness and prosperity galore). If you can't or don't want to paint the front door, at least give it a thorough cleaning, and maybe save the fresh coat for another chilly winter day.

Remember, the front door calls in most of the subtle energies that enter your house, as well as has an influence and impact on your opportunities and your income. So, be sure it is in very good working condition. In the case of your front door, the words 'open wide' promise to put a really big smile on your face!Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-17501664359810435782009-01-02T01:55:00.000-08:002009-01-02T02:56:33.844-08:00The Beginning of a New Year-2009The new year has come in with all new promises, brand new beginnings, new surprises, and has a bag full of resolutions to adhere to. So like everybody else I have set certain resolutions for myself.

It is possible that I don't prioratize things. It is also possible that my resolutions are not real. Or I make resolutions just for the heck of it. Well I am still analysing the reason. Anyhow I have certain resolutions that I can share with other people through this write up.

1) I will try and interact with more with people. Because they say social interaction is a way to learn new things.

2) I will definitely put aside time for my personal learning.

3) I will either join a dance class or a foreign langauge class, because learning new things keeps one active.

4) Would try and learn new things that may not be a part of my core job responsibility but will add to my knowledge.

5) Spend at least 10 mins in a day to contemplate whether I have learnt anything or not. Whether I am able to meet my goals personal and professional or not?

Well so much for this year...let's see how many of them I can meet.Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-68604880276280283742009-01-02T01:46:00.000-08:002009-01-02T01:55:53.944-08:00VST BusesFew days back I read in the newspaper that APSRTC has launced VST buses after some 3 decades for few selected routes. I have been travelling in buses for more than 3 years now. But now am eagerly waiting for the VST buses to ply on the routes which I frequent. Apparently these buses have a carrying capacity of upto some 70 people. And these buses will in time carry around 170 passengers back and forth. And the best thing about it is that the fare remains the same as those of ordinary buses. Isn't it cool?Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-74032753843987766672008-12-17T21:23:00.000-08:002008-12-18T00:43:32.895-08:00Life as a SingletonLife as a single person has both good and bad side to it. The good part is that you can live life on your own terms. The bad part about it is that people assume that when you lead a single life you cease to have any responsibility towards yourself. People assume that you have a carefree life where you don't have any other work besides coming to your workplace.

Moreover, people also believe that all the people who reside alone may not be preparing dinner/lunch for themselves. Reason, you are single. There are many instances where people irk you by asking questions for which you may have given answers numerous times. Often times people ask "what do you do on your weekends"? Well single people have many other things to do just as their married counter parts. They have a social life of their own. They need to do household chores like anybody else. So why do you ask such silly and irritating questions.

Other than this people have many other assumptions on the part of singletons. The list is endless and you can't ut down everything on a single :-) write-up.Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-21168411253934147162008-12-17T21:10:00.000-08:002008-12-17T21:22:27.663-08:00Work Life v/s Student LifeI always used to wonder that people who work can enjoy the life to the fullest. They are no longer dependent on anybody financially, so they need not wait for other people to fulfil any of their wants. They do not have to persuade anybody to transform their desires into reality. But this write-up is not about the advantages of being a professional. This article gives a comparision between the life as student and life as a professional.

Well when you are a student, you have to study and pay to the institution. But when you work, you get paid. Similarly as a student we have to write exams now and then, but as professionals evevry day turns out to be an examination day. It can be said that the day when you take an interview is one of the preliminary exams. Post that you have to take numerous exams.

As a student you can switch to academic bulimia(study on the last day of exam and then forgetevevrything post the exam) but if you do the same as a working person, you are sure to head no where in your career.

As a student you can go for a movie or party, or have night outs, without having to worry that you havev to wake up early in the next day for your office. But as a working person, you can do this only during weekends.

But at one point of time I feel you get a lot more confidence and freedom as aworking person that you can never get when a student.

More to come in the next blog...

Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-63302148541579679122008-12-11T22:58:00.000-08:002008-12-11T23:06:33.219-08:00Public Phones Missing in the MMTS StationWell, I guess I realized that most no all most all the MMTS stations do not have public phones. I realized that what if I need to make an urgent call and I find zero balance in my cell. What then? So what I feel that even if the number of cell phone users have increased over the years, the public telephones should not be removed from the scene all together. It is quite necessary incase of any casualty or any other form of emergency.

Also care should be taken to have tea stall in all the stations. Apart from main MMTS stations like Lingampalli, Begumpet, Nampally, and the Secunderabad stations you would hardly find any such shops. Also there are no wash rooms in any of the stations other than the Sec'bad stations.

I really don't know whom to escalate this problem but wish that the concerned authorities (SCR) should try to resolve this problem.Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-65585603998488673062008-12-11T22:44:00.000-08:002008-12-11T22:56:36.755-08:00MMTS Trains and Women PowerThis article is devoted to those who travel by MMTS (Multi Modal Transport System) train. Well I have been travelling by MMTS train for the past 1.6 years. In the beginning I found it very comfortable, convienient, cheap. But as time passed by, I could see the downside of it.

One of the shortcomings of travelling by a local train is that the ladies compartment are frequented by the male members of the society. I guess I've written about this in one of my articles already. But what's new about it. Well, from quite sometime I saw that some fellow commuters (ladies) have started taking up the resposibility for their security. Isn't that great!

What these ladies are up to is that they drive the men out of the PHC section of the ladies compartment. Apparently the educated, non-educated, rural, and the urban men believe that the PHC section of the ladies compartment is meant for men. But this is not true. So these ladies fight and shout and use all possible means to drive them away. I felt it's awesome. Atleast ladies have tried to help themselves. Even I feel all of us should join them in their fight to teach these people (men) a lesson. So gone are the days when ladies would silently suffer the atrocities of men who think that they can do anything possible.

Bravo ladies!Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-79509047892602995182008-12-11T22:16:00.000-08:002008-12-11T22:43:00.526-08:00Language a Means of Communication or Discrimination?Well language is considered as a means of communication. But of late I've come to believe that it's actually used as a way of discriminating people. For instance I considered people over in Hyderabad quite friendly and warm. But few incidents made me change my opinion.

Like for instance, I travel by this MMTS train. And people here invariably start the conversation in their regional language. Ok it's not an issue if the people who hail from villages do that. But if people living in cities assume that evrybody around is an Andharite, it sounds a little strange, and a fact hard to digest. Also when you declare that "Telegu Radu", their attitude towards you changes. Their friendly and smiling faces become not so friendly. They no longer wish to engage in any kind of conversation. They don't offer you a seat even if three people can accomodate.
But I believe that not all people are like that. Some people are friendly no matter what language you speak.

I strongly believe that learning a new language is a good practice. And believe me am trying to pick up this classical langauge as well. But it will take time. I believe in the fact that learning is an active process and if one keeps learning new language, learns about new culture it only adds to his/her experiences. But at the same time people should have respect for other langauges too.Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-49166848383869593982008-11-27T19:52:00.001-08:002008-11-27T20:41:18.750-08:00Commuting via Railways
I've been traveling via MMTS (Multi Modal Transport System) for over a year now. The reason being it's cheap, it's comfortable, and takes less time as compared to the other public transportation like bus. MMTS was a new means of communication for me, because all this while I was traveling in a bus. What made my affinity grow towards MMTS was that it has around two compartments especially for ladies.

As time passed by I saw that men started getting into the ladies coupe'. What the hell? Yeah and they have this PHC section at one end of the ladies compartment. Men of all ages come and comfortably occupy these seats. If you try to explain that this compartment is meant for ladies, they argue that the PHC section is for gents.

Even the posters and notices that say "Men traveling in ladies compartment can be fined up to Rs 500" fail to stop men traveling in the ladies compartment. The TTE play it safe. They come and drive these men out once in a blue moon. After a period of time everything comes back to same point. If you happen to travel late at night say post 8 pm, you might have to sit and pray that you reach home safely. The recent news http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id-NEWEN20080073935 about a lady who lost her arm to escape a drunken men gives you all the more reasons to avoid traveling late at night.

Though as a law abiding citizen I get a train pass or buy tickets, but guess what, the TTE never bothers to check the tickets. They check it when the train is almost empty. If they checked the tickets on a regular basis the number of people traveling without tickets would be driven away. That would make more room for people who buy tickets.

But there's no point in cribbing about MMTS because people who stay far off from the city have no other means but to switch to MMTS as it is the best public transportation system. But SCR can take certain measures to stop men traveling in ladies compartment. They can run MMTSs specifically for working ladies. Better still they can add more ladies coaches to existing trains.

But let's just wait and watch what measure the SCR takes to make traveling via trains a better experience.
Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-18665287587170656582008-11-23T21:07:00.000-08:002008-11-23T22:38:10.038-08:00Passport-Ek Aur Kahani
If you wish to apply for a passport apart from your original place of residence, then gear up to struggle for months together. Getting a passport in an alien city is not that easy.

Initially I had no intention of applying it from Hyderabad. Thanks to those articles that I read every other day in the newspaper. A long list of people complaining out there that they did not receive the passport on time. I had already read so much about it that I thought it's better to apply it from my home town. But then I got to know that one of my friends had applied it from here and got it withing 2-3 months. I got inspired from her and made up my mind to give it a try. So here begins the story.

First thing's first. I need to get the form. So one fine saturday I went to the passport office. However, if you go to the passport office, the guards sitting there will suggest that "you can apply it online ma'am". But the site never opens properly. Later in the month of May or June I read in the Hindu that now we can apply for a passport from eSeva centres. And this process was enforced in the month of September. Though in newspapers the passport officials keep telling that you can apply for a passport online, trust me it's all fake. First of all the site does not open. So if you want to apply for a fresh/new passport, get a form (booklet) from an eSeva centre or the passport office.

Next thing on the list is to get the relevant papers in place. Namely your proof of DOB, your proof of residence and the demand draft. Guess what the news is, that the demand draft should not be more than three months old. C'mon it's written on a demand draft that it is valid for a period of six months. I went to the eSeva centre, with all the relevant documents attached and the form duly filled. The person sitting at the desk scanned through my form and other documents. But not even once did he say that your demand draft is more than three months old. I was almost on the verge of crying when after waiting for almost three and a half hours or so the other passport officer said, " your DD is not valid, we can not accept it". I tried to justify that a DD is valid for a period of six months. Moreover, it it not mentioned in the booklet attached to the passport form that your DD should not be older than three months. As a result I had to run back to the bank to renew the DD. The story does not end here.

Finally I submitted the passport form in the month of October. And those passport people said, "you will get your passport with 45 business days." Oh that's pretty cool. But again these were fake promises. After all we are not living in a utopian world.

Next thing on the list was the police verification process. Though it was due for some 31st of October, he finally turned up a few days back. The problem was that he did not understand Hindi, and was not comfortable with English as well. And I do not know Telegu. But any how he managed to get a copy of the required documents and signatures. But I didn't know that I had to offer him some Vitamin-M. So he asked for my proof of residence. Well, my kind house owner came to my rescue and said, "is it not enough that we are here to certify that she has been staying her for more than a year now". "Mousumi C'mon show him the electricity bills." And I showed all the bills and everything. But he said "get a stamp paper as your residence proof." Oh God, how many things do you need to show to prove that you are a citizen of a certain country!! Well left with no other choice I managed to ask people where can I get a stamp paper. And guess what an auto wala (auto rickshaw driver) informs me where I can get it from. So kind of him. Well I got the stamp paper and finally submitted it to the verification officer.

Now I have to patiently wait for my passport to come.

Here are few tips that might help all the people who are planning to get a new passport from Hyderabad are as follows:

Get the passport form from eSeva centre.

Get all the papers in place. Note the DD should not be more than three months old.

If you are staying as a tenant, get a stamp paper ready as a proof of residence.

This was a learning experience for me. I learnt how to get things done on my own. Also one thing is evident that patience and perseverance is a great virtue. And in any place you need to inculcate these virtues to get things done.

Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5445541055927777491.post-9013170879355606452008-11-10T20:44:00.000-08:002008-11-21T00:46:47.361-08:00Internet WoesInternet Woes

Of late I’ve been planning to get an internet connection. But lo! I had no idea which ISP to opt for? So, the sojourn begins…..

This is towards the beginning of August this year. I went to the nearest BSNL office to inquire about the internet services they offer. And like a law abiding citizen I filled in the necessary forms and submitted the relevant documents. Here goes the dialogue between me and the lady in-charge.

Lady in-charge (asked): Do you have a BSNL landline connection?
Me: uh.. am afraid No.
Lady in-charge: Do you know of any nearby BSNL landline number?
Me: Nope
Lady in-charge: Okay, where do you stay?
Me: Somewhere near the station. Adarsh Nagar Colony.
Lady in-charge: Which floor do you stay?
Me: Ground floor.
Lady in-charge: Lemme inquire, tring tring tring “cable lines unda?”(Do you have cable line over there, No? ok) Leda? Ok
Me: What is it?
Lady in-charge: Sorry, there are no cable connections out there, so we can’t help you.
Me: Tired and frustrated standing in the queue for almost two hours, went back empty handed.

Wait the story doesn’t end over here. There’s more to come. At this point of time I had decided to take internet connection any how. So the second innings began.

I happen to read this leaflet, some “Star Communications” saying something like this:
“First time in kukatpally, RELIANCE internet connection!!! Hurry.” I thought oh wow, so finally I can get the connection. I dialled in the given number and found that the person on the other side could not understand Hindi or English, so he handed over the phone to another sales person. He agreed and said “Madam paanch din mei connection ho jayega” Paanch din wow that sounds brilliant. (Madam we promise to provide you the connection within five business days).

The guy said that he would come and take the cheque and the other required documents. After calling him like twenty tines, finally one fine evening he came to collect it. But after that he never turned up. In the mean time I went to my home. But kept calling these people; so that they don’t forget that they had the cheque, which was already encashed.

Finally the installation people came, installed the modem. I was elated that after such a long time I was finally going to surf the net at the comfort of my home. But then I get to see the message “Page cannot be opened”, please try again. This is what followed.
Me: What’s this?
Net Guy: Madam, what operating system do you have in you system?
Me: Windows Vista.
Net Guy: Madam you better format your system and change the O/S to XP.
Me: No I'll lose all the data that is stored in my system. There must be a way to get internet connection with Vista O/S.
Net Guy: No idea ma’am. I can’t help you. You get your system formatted.
Me: Then I made a series of calls to friends, near and dear ones. Hey can you tell me why am unable to get the connection after installation is done?

All my friends came up with different solutions. But neither helped me resolve this problem. The guy who installed never turned up till date to fix the problem. The customer care people just have few things to say. This is how it goes….

Customer care: Good evening, this is x, how I may assist you?
Me: I got internet connection on so and so date, but it’s showing limited or no connectivity.
Customer care: Can I have your user ID madam.
Me: Yeah, it’s 331526888556611
Customer care: okay ma’am please be on the line, I’ll forward this call to our technical department and they will definitely resolve your problem ma’am.
Me: Okay.
Customer care: Ma’am this is so and so, can you please tell me what kind of problem you are facing.
Me: Yeah, sure. Though installation has been done, it’s showing no connectivity.
Customer care: Okay ma’am I will give you a complaint reference number. Please note it down. We will send somebody to fix the problem.
Me: Okay fine.

Day 2: No response, nobody turned up
Day3: Again called up reliance customer care. This is how it goes.

Customer care: Good evening, this is Y, how I may assist you?
Me: Repeated the same problem again.
Customer care: Sorry for the inconvenience ma’am, but I’ll definitely escalate this problem to the technical team. And will DEFINITELY resolve your problem.

Day4: Nothing happened. Nobody from the technical team came to resolve the issue.

Day4: Evening. I called up the customer care people again to repeat the same problem. But to no avail.

Customer care: Good evening, this is Z, how I may assist you?
Me: Well I think you better refund the money because I am no longer interested to take the internet connection.
Customer care: Sorry ma’am the installation charge is non-refundable. You have to talk to the manger.
Me: What!! But those people who came for installation said it will be refunded if the connection doesn’t work.
Customer care: No ma’am. You can wait for some more time, and I assure you that your problem will be resolved.
Me: OKAY.

Now I’ve no other choice other than waiting. Poor me :-(Mousumi Ghoshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07741507654947421952noreply@blogger.com2
